PDO workers reinstated after strike
Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the sultanate’s main oil producer, has announced operations are returning to normal, following a strike staged by some contractors last week.
The strikers were demanding better retirement benefits and health insurance. Government officials, managers for PDO and the contractors, and union representatives have agreed to reinstate 400 contract workers, who were fired last week after going on strike, with full pay.
PDO, 60% owned by the government with Royal Dutch Shell holding 34%, is the Gulf country’s largest oil exploration and production company, accounting for over 70% of oil production and nearly all natural gas output.
