Abu Dhabi’s new Mirfa IWPP to export power to other emirates

Abu Dhabi has approved the construction of Mirfa Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) to boost power exports to rest of the Emirates, reports The Khaleej Times.

Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, the director general of Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, (ADWEA) said it is the commitment of ADWEA to satisfy the requirements of other emirates in compliance with directives of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The export of electric power would increase from 2,000 MW in 2011 to 3,900 MW in 2015.

Middleeasttenders.com has reported that HSBC has been appointed as the financial advisor for the project. Further, ADWEA is expected to seek bidders during the summer, and select the developer  by early 2013.

The IWPP is expected to have a power generation capacity of 1,500-1,600 MW and desalination capacity of 60 MIGD.
