To enhance this capacity, earlier this year, DEWA has set up an independent regulatory authority, has issued the Law No 6 (2011) and amended the DEWA decree in order to facilitate and encourage public-private partnerships in the power and water sectors.”

The Hassyan 1 Project, which will be 51%-owned by DEWA, is the first project under the Independent Power Programme launched by DEWA on May 22, 2011. Bidders have been invited to design, finance, construct and operate a new 1500MW gas-fired power plant which will be commissioned in phases from November 2014 to 2016.

Tenders are due to be submitted on October 18, 2011 and the selected bidder will be announced by the end of the year.
